How to Create Static Image Ad Variations with the Image Generator

Use the DatAds Image Generator to create static ad variations from any reference creative, with control over copy, layout, colors, and aspect ratio.

Written by Kerim Ay

The Image ads generator lets you create new static image ad variations from an existing reference creative — same brand and product, with targeted edits to copy, layout, colors, fonts, and aspect ratio. It works with your Iterate and Diversify Static Workflows, from inspiration or directly from any creative in your reports.

Requirements

  • An active DatAds subscription

  • View/Edit permissions or higher to generate; View only is sufficient to browse results and download

  • A specific brand selected (not "All clients")

How to open the Image Generator

From an Iterate or Diversify Static Workflow (most common)

  1. Open your Launch Cockpit and run the Iterate Ads or Diversify Ads workflow.

  2. In the action recommendations, click the blue Open Image Generator button next to an iteration or suggestion.

  3. The builder opens pre-filled with the reference image and change instructions from that workflow item.

From any creative (Clone ad)

Hover over any static creative in your reports and click Clone ad. The builder opens with that creative as the reference image.

From a competitor ad in Discovery

When browsing competitor brands in Discovery, hover over any static ad and click Clone ad. The builder opens with that competitor ad as the reference, so you can adapt its layout and structure while replacing it with your own brand and product.

From the Generated Images library

In the left sidebar, go to AI Workflows Generated Images to browse all previously generated images for the selected brand.

Configure the Image Generator

Review and adjust these fields before generating:

  • Reference image URL — The source ad the model uses as a base. Pre-filled from the workflow; change it to use a different creative.

  • Project (top right) — Select a project to add brand tone, SOPs, and product notes to the generation context. Strongly recommended for consistent results.

  • Change instructions — Pre-filled from the workflow's iteration suggestion. Edit to add, remove, or refine specific directions.

  • Brand colors — Add your hex color palette so the output stays on-brand.

    • You can also set this globally in your client settings

  • Brand fonts — Set headline and body font family and weight.

  • Product images — Upload up to 4 product packshots (JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP) to feature in the output.

  • Visual styleKeep Reference Style preserves the original layout. Or select a named style (e.g. Sticker, Checklist, Messenger) to shift the visual format while keeping your brand and product.

  • Ratio — 9:16, 1:1, or 16:9.

  • Batch size — Generate 1–4 variations in a single run.

Generate and review results

Click Generate Image Ads (bottom right). Generation runs in the background — you'll see the results page with thumbnails once it's done.

From the results page you can:

  • Click Edit ad on any variation to open the builder again with that image as the new reference

  • Click Download all to export all variations as a ZIP

If you opened the generator from a workflow, the new images are automatically attached back to that iteration or suggestion. If you see a merge warning notification, your images were still saved — refresh the workflow to see them.

All past generations are also accessible at any time via AI Workflows Generated Images in the sidebar.

Notes

  • Image generation is available for static ad workflows only. Video workflows do not support this feature.

  • Generation requests are subject to a rate limit per workspace. If you reach it, wait a short while and try again.
